The leader in brain injury rehabilitation is also a leader in
specialized treatment for mild traumatic brain injury or post-concussion
syndrome. Often called an “unseen injury,” the effects of a concussion
or mild traumatic brain injury may not be immediately obvious and may
remain hidden on medical tests. Symptoms can occur immediately after the
injury, they can disappear quickly or they can linger over a longer
period of time and change your personality, disrupt your senses or
interfere with your cognitive abilities.

Clinical Evaluation
Our comprehensive program begins with a neuropsychological evaluation
designed to measure cognitive functioning, particularly in relation to
attention, concentration, memory, problem solving and sensory and
perceptual abilities. Following the evaluation, our multidisciplinary
team of psychologists, physical, occupational and speech therapists
develop an individualized treatment plan based on the needs identified
in the initial evaluation.
Treatment Plan
Treatment focuses on helping you return to an active, productive
lifestyle by incorporating physical and cognitive therapy programs to
help alleviate difficulties associated with mild traumatic brain injury.
Our multidisciplinary treatment components include physical therapy for
difficulties with motion and vestibular sensitivity; occupational
therapy to address daily activities and functional vision deficits;
speech and language therapy to improve language skills and cognitive
deficits; psychological counseling to cope with concerns at home, work
or school. Vision services also are provided by a neuro-optometrist, if
necessary.
A Team Approach
Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital emphasizes a team approach to care and the team
always includes the patient and family, as well as a case manager who
acts as a liaison with the patient, family, insurance company and
treatment team. Your physician will receive updates on your progress.
The Referral Process
If you are suffering from the effects of a mild traumatic brain injury
or a concussion, ask your doctor if a rehabilitation program can help
you. Patients can refer themselves to our Mild Traumatic Brain Injury
Rehabilitation Program with a prescription from a physician or you can
be referred by a physician, insurance case manager or social worker.
Medical and financial information will be required.
