The 1,250-square-foot Annenberg Simulation Center brings together three
key areas of focus for Lankenau Medical Center: patient care excellence,
academic achievement and innovative research. Located on the top level
of the Nursing Education Building of the Annenberg Center, it is a place
for physicians, nurses and other clinicians to master procedures and
learn critical skills—away from the patient's bedside, improving the
delivery of safe and effective patient care.
Physician and nursing champions throughout Main Line Health oversee
training at the Center, where physicians, residents, fellows and nurses
from all MLH hospitals can learn new procedures and fine-tune old ones,
practice infection prevention measures and enact team scenarios, such as
patient codes. Clinicians at different levels of experience and
seniority interact in a team setting that encourages communication,
respect and cooperation.
Features of the Simulation Center include:
Life-like, remote-controlled mannequins that simulate
symptoms and make sounds. They serve as realistic,
virtual patients for a level of experiential learning
that cannot be achieved in an ordinary classroom
Two team training areas and a control room
State-of-the-art audio and visual system
Training/debriefing room for team members to evaluate
their own and their colleagues' performances in a
positive environment that encourages honest feedback
