Labor, Delivery and Recovery Unit
Bryn
Mawr offers private, spacious labor rooms and bathrooms with showers and
two fully equipped operating rooms for patients requiring a cesarean
delivery.
Family-Centered Maternity Unit
Upon completing the recovery phase of your delivery, you will be
transferred to the Family-Centered Maternity Unit on the second floor.
The focus of this next phase of your recovery is to provide education
and support while you learn to care for your baby and self with the
support of expert nurses to help you. Bryn Mawr offers private and
semiprivate rooms for the remainder of your stay. We offer
breast-feeding classes three times a week by our certified lactation
consultant, and baby-care classes are offered each evening. We encourage
all of our parents to attend at least one session during their stay with
us.
After delivery, your baby will be taken to the newborn nursery for close
observation and any required testing. In addition to standard testing,
Bryn Mawr Hospital routinely performs a hearing screening on your baby
to check for any early problems of hearing loss. All babies undergo
state-required screening prior to discharge.
As part of our family-centered philosophy, we encourage you to have your
baby with you as much as you like; however, you are encouraged to rest
as much as possible and send your baby back to the nursery when needed.
We are always available to answer your questions and provide guidance
during those first days.
Bryn Mawr Hospital has special security measures in place to ensure that
proper identification is checked each time we bring you your baby.
Bryn Mawr Hospital wishes to thank you for choosing us as the place to
start your family and for allowing us the opportunity to provide you
with a memorable experience at this important time in you life.
