Riddle Hospital’s exciting new 80,000 sq. ft medical office building is
now open.
Located on the existing Riddle Hospital campus, the new building is
anticipated to receive a Silver or Gold LEED Certification of
Achievement, which usually takes a year or so after construction
completion and occupancy. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted
benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of
high-performance green buildings.
The new building houses the Rothman Institute Orthopaedic Center of
Excellence and an outpatient surgical center opening in the Summer of
2010, along with the Riddle Rehab Institute, physician offices, Diabetes
Education Center, Riddle Speech and Hearing, and fitness and wellness
programs. The new 540-car parking garage has also been completed. This
new garage was built to accommodate the increased volume to Riddle’s
campus.
Riddle has made the choice to lead by example in integrating sustainable
design and construction elements into this project. The new building
follows environmentally responsible or green design and construction
principles to create a superior environment for patients, employees and
visitors while preserving natural resources for future generations.
Green buildings have been proven to enhance occupant well being and
comfort, thereby decreasing patient healing time. These efforts will
result in significant energy and water savings. Riddle is proud to be at
the forefront of an environmentally friendly community.
To ensure that the indoor air quality standards are maintained, the
building has implemented a green housekeeping program using
environmentally friendly cleaning products and practices. Waste
generated in the new facility is effectively managed with the
implementation of a recycling program throughout the campus to reduce
the burden on local landfills and reinforce the importance of
environmental stewardship to building occupants. To further promote
reduced automobile dependence, bicycle racks and shower facilities are
provided. Energy efficient exterior lighting fixtures reduce light
pollution for the surrounding residential neighborhoods, making Riddle
Hospital an even better neighbor.
