Demo Days
Demo Days are held at Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital or at a partnering
organization’s location. During these half-day sessions, guided tours of
the exhibition or permanent collection are given for under-served
populations such as physically and cognitively disabled individuals,
schools, support groups and other interested groups. Typically, tours
focus on artists most relevant to the group. Demo days also include
demonstrations by selected Art Ability artists and a hands-on activity
with the participants.
The goal is to provide an interactive educational component that
broadens the participant’s appreciation of art and enhances their
self-image.
In July 2009, we took the program to the day camp of The Timothy School,
a non-profit school in Berwyn, PA devoted exclusively to the education
of children with autism. More than a dozen students received an
educational look at selected permanent collection artwork and a
demonstration by Art Ability artist Sal Panasci who guided them in
creating bookmarks from tissue paper.
Special needs children from the Kanner Learning Center of the Devereaux
School and Elwyn’s Davidson School have also participated in the
interactive educational half-day sessions.
