Our Home Health team provides skilled services to patients who are not
capable of leaving their home to get care. Our team of nurses, physical

Following are some frequently asked questions about working as a
therapist in a home care setting.
How does providing therapy in Home Care differ than other
settings?
Home care is unique in that therapists get to treat patients in their
own homes, in the environment in which they have to function every day:
their own kitchens, bathrooms, stairs, and bedrooms. Home care is also
unique because all treatment sessions are 1:1 with the patient. Our
therapists find this to be a very rewarding and functional way to
provide therapy services.
What are the advantages of working in the Home Care setting?
FLEXIBILITY OF SCHEDULING is the number one advantage! Therapists make
their own schedule with a patient which allows them to accommodate both
patient specific needs as well as their personal needs creating an ideal
work-life balance. Home care therapists also do not have to treat the
high volume of patients that is required of therapists in traditional
settings such as hospitals or outpatient clinics. Our home care
therapists see 5-6 patients per day (in an average 8 hour day).

How is Main Line Health’s Home Care service different than other
providers?
We are the largest homecare provider in the Philadelphia region with
over 400 employees including over 100 therapists. Our large size
supports the following: small geographic territories with minimal
travel; home care therapy program managed and supported by therapists,
(not nurses as with many smaller providers); home care student
affiliation programs for all 3 disciplines; well defined therapy
policy/procedures to facilitate ease of learning and practice; fully
automated documentation system including company provided laptop and
blackberry/cell phone.
Will I be a part of a team and work with other Therapists?
The clinical patient care team in home care typically includes one or
more of the following disciplines: Nursing, Occupational Therapy,
Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, Social Work, Dietician, Nutritionist,
and Home Health Aide. All members of the clinical team communicate
frequently through voicemail, E-mail, or co-visits. Interaction with
fellow members of the therapy team occurs frequently through many
mediums in our agency including bi-monthly interactive record review,
quarterly journal club meetings, staff meetings, and multiple committee
opportunities such as Falls, Ethics, and Patient Satisfaction just to
name a few.
How is my schedule determined?
Your schedule is determined by you based in the clinical needs of your
patients and your availability to work. Typically patients are seen 2-3
days a week in homecare. New patients and changes to your schedule are
facilitated by schedulers in the office. Authorization from insurance
companies and referral information are fully automated processes and
handled by our utilization review and intake departments so you do not
have to spend any time communicating directly with insurance companies
or referral sources.
Can I select which territory I work in?
The great flexibility of scheduling in homecare is paralleled with your
territory selection. When you interview with a therapy manager you will
be asked what territory you would like and how many visits/hours you
want to work, then we will work with you to try to make it happen. If
your ideal territory isn’t available immediately, you will be notified
as soon as it becomes available and most therapists are in their ideal
territory within one year of joining our organization.
Is training provided?
Absolutely! The Home Care Network has the one of the best training
programs available for new hires including those without homecare
experience. Training generally occurs over a 3-month period of time; is
customized based on your level of knowledge and experience; and includes
a detailed procedural manual. Our training is lead directly by a therapy
manager and supported by an advanced clinician and mentor of the same
discipline as well as by the educators for The Home Care Network.
Training includes instruction in how to document in our electronic
medical record, attendance at Main Line Health System orientation, and
attendance at The Home Care Network orientation. Therapy Care Team
Coordinators provide ongoing clinical support for day-to-day problems or
issues throughout your career with home care.
Is it safe?
It is because of the great support staff that is only a phone call away
if problems arise. The Home Care Network will not accept a patient onto
services if their home situation is unsafe. A detailed and progressive
procedure is in place if a situation should arise while a patient is
under care up to and including a security escort service or discharge of
a patient from services if a safe care environment can not be obtained.
