Educational Needs

As part of the LIMR mission, our staff is dedicated to both training the scientists of tomorrow as well as the clinicians of today. Below are some of the programs that need your support.

EducationalNeedsThe LIMR summer internship program is an eight-week program for academically gifted, undergraduate college students who are interested in pursuing careers in medicine and biomedical research. These selected students have the unique opportunity to work side-by-side with some of the Institute’s world-renowned researchers. An internship at LIMR complements the students other educational experiences and equips them with knowledge and skills that are useful when they enter the workplace. Each year, LIMR receives over a hundred applications from students attending leading colleges and universities around the country. Of those applicants, we chose a handful of students to be a part of this program. We hope that each student’s experience at LIMR will encourage their interest and enthusiasm in science, solidifying their decision to pursue a medical or research career.

EducationalNeeds2LIMR researchers have access to graduate students from three local Universities, St. Joseph’s University, Thomas Jefferson University, and Drexel University. Students who have been accepted into the St. Joseph’s University Master of Science in Biology Program can apply for LIMR Research Assistantships. These assistantships pay for tuition expenses to obtain the M.S. degree and the opportunity to perform one’s thesis work under the direction of and in the laboratory of a LIMR faculty member. In addition, students who have been accepted into the College of Graduate Studies at Thomas Jefferson University, as well as those at Drexel University have the opportunity to complete their thesis or dissertation work at LIMR. The vast majority of the costs associated with graduate student education are currently covered by unrestricted funds.

EducationalNeeds3LIMR’s location on the campus of the Lankenau Medical Center gives us the opportunity to offer incoming medical residents and fellows the option to participate in basic, pre-clinical, and clinical research opportunities. These research internships are available for all residents and fellows in any of the laboratories of the LIMR faculty.
