Mission of the Lankenau Medical Center Hematology/Medical Oncology Fellowship Program:
The mission of the Lankenau Medical Center Hematology/Medical Oncology Fellowship Program, an Internal Medicine subspecialty education program, is to provide fellows with a supervised training experience at the level required for the fellows to acquire competency as a specialist in the combined fields of Hematology and Medical Oncology.
Our mission will be accomplished through a clinical competency based curriculum, which shall meet ACGME and RRC requirements; the fellows shall acquire clinical competencies in the following areas:
Medical Knowledge: Acquire clinical and didactic experience in observation and management of patients with a wide range of neoplastic and blood disorders.
Patient Care: Assume continuing responsibility for managing the care of acutely and chronically ill patients in order to observe the evolution of blood diseases, history of cancer and benefits and adverse effects of therapy.
Communication Skills: Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients and families when facing life-threatening or terminal illness.
Practice-Based Learning: Develop commitment to research, scholarly activities and self-assessment in order to implement practice-based improvement initiatives.
System-Based Practice: Develop an understanding of different types of medical practice and delivery systems and how the fellow's practice affects, and is impacted by other health care professionals, organizations, financial payors and society. Participate in multi-disciplinary treatment team planning for patients and families.
Professionalism and Humanistic Patient Care: Demonstrate positive humanistic qualities and professional behavior, always placing the patient's welfare first as the primary area of concern.
