We understand the concern associated with waiting for test results and finding the right specialists. The Comprehensive Breast Center at Bryn Mawr Hospital is designed to minimize the anxiety by providing supportive care. If a lump is felt or if mammography results require further evaluation, we offer quick consultations and easy access to specialists to lessen waiting time and reduce worrying.
- Minimally Invasive Biopsy Procedures: Bryn Mawr Hospital physicians have pioneered several minimally invasive techniques to sample questionable areas without requiring major surgical procedures. The Comprehensive Breast Center offers both stereotactic and ultrasound-guided handheld Mammotome biopsy. Both procedures are performed under local anesthesia by our radiologists.
- Breast MRI: For certain patients an examination of the breast using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may help determine the extent of disease and influence treatment decisions. It is also used as a problem-solving tool when mammogram and ultrasound results are inconclusive. MRI-guided needle localizations and MRI-guided biopsies can be performed.
- Surgical Consultation: If a woman's breast imaging results require further evaluation, our board-certified breast surgeons are available for consultation within 24 to 48 hours. We also offer consultation with a plastic and reconstructive surgeon.
- Medical and Radiation Oncology Consultation: Physician specialists in medical and radiation oncology are available for consultation to discuss treatment options and make recommendations for each patient.
