Reaching
Young People
In a Meaningful
And Unique Way

CNB is an award
winning, community outreach program
developed by Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital
more than 20 years ago. The program was
created in an effort to help reduce
the incidence of impaired, reckless
and distracted driving among teenagers
and young adults in the greater
Philadelphia region through education.
Our goal is injury prevention and
CNB helps us achieve this
goal by
• educating teenagers,
young adults and parents about the
potential consequences associated with
poor choices while driving, including
texting,
using alcohol or
drugs, and being distracted by cell
phones.
• bringing our
audiences face-to face with
survivors of accidents that are the
direct result of impaired driving.
• showing our audiences
the permanent loss, injury and
disabilities that can occur.
Our speakers candidly discuss the
results of their actions - the
accidents, the prolonged recoveries and
the permanent losses.
What Makes CNB
Unique?
CNB is a peer to peer approach to education.
Our speakers are young people who were either a driver, passenger,
pedestrian or passing motorist and became involved in an accident
because of distracted or impaired driving. Each of our speakers shares a
story of tragedy, loss, recovery and life.
Some speakers are former Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital patients who talk
about the challenges they faced recovering from traumatic,
life-altering injuries. Some speakers are parents of young people who
were injured or killed by an impaired or distracted driver. Each speaker
is committed to sharing their experience so that they can educate a
young person about making a safe choice as a driver or a passenger
in a motor vehicle. They connect with audiences in a very
personal and compelling way. CNB presentations are sobering
experiences that bring audiences face-to-face with a real-life
tragedy. CNB presentations leave lasting impressions.
Making the Right Choice - Stay Safe
Making a safe choice is the central theme of each CNB presentation.
Our program empowers audiences to understand the consequences
of the choices they make. We show our audience how important it is to
make an informed decision through the open, interactive discussions
that are a focal point of our program.
We review with students the importance of creating a Safety Plan -
a strategy to help students say "No" when they are placed in an
unsafe situation. Through interactive role playing, our speakers stress
the importance of making good choices and planning for their own safety
in a variety of situations.
Since its inception in 1989, CNB has reached more than 500,000 children,
teenagers and young adults.
