The Jefferson Radiation Oncology Center at Riddle, located on the Ground
Floor of Health Care Center I, is one of several Jefferson radiation
oncology program sites located throughout the Delaware Valley. The
center provides the most advanced radiation oncology treatment options.
As part of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Thomas Jefferson
University Hospital and the Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson, Radiation
Oncology at Riddle offers the same quality services available at
Jefferson's Center City facility.
Radiation Oncology
This unit is staffed with physicians from Thomas Jefferson University
Hospital who deliver the same high quality care here as they offer at
their facility in Philadelphia. The Center contains a state-of-the-art
linear accelerator capable of generating a wide range of x-ray and
electron energies to optimize treatment. Riddle patients can receive
treatment by 3-Dimensional conformal Radiation Therapy ( 3-D CRT ),
Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy ( IMRT ), and implant
brachytherapy depending on their individual treatment needs.
Videoconferencing
This system enables physician interaction among cancer specialists at
Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Riddle Hospital. These
telemedical consultations ensure that the most advanced knowledge about
cancer treatment, clinical trials and outcome data can be
instantaneously shared.
Risk Assessment/Genetic Counseling
The Jefferson Hereditary Cancer Center is dedicated to identifying and
managing individuals with a known or suspected inherited pre-disposition
to cancer.
Clinical Trials
Riddle Hospital is part of the Jefferson Cancer Network. As part of the
Network, Riddle's patients have access to the latest National Cancer
Institute (NCI) and Jefferson protocols for cancer. Jefferson is also
directly involved in clinical trials and cancer prevention activities
through full membership in the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG),
a national cancer research organization sponsored and funded by the NCI,
and affiliation with the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG),
another National Cancer Institute (NCI)-supported organization working
to improve outcomes for cancer patients nationwide.
