The Riddle Cancer Advisory Committee, which consists of former Riddle Hospital cancer patients and their family members, was formed to advise the Cancer Committee on ways to improve cancer care from the patients’ perspective.
During its existence, the cancer Advocacy Committee helped develop several new programs to benefit Riddle’s patients, including a Buddy Program that pairs patients currently undergoing treatment with someone who has survived the same type of cancer. The committee is also involved with operating the Cancer Center’s Family Resource Center, establishing American Cancer Society programs at Riddle (such as Look Good – Feel Better) and raising money to provide refreshments in the Cancer Center waiting room.
“These dedicated people help ensure that we as physicians continue to focus on the person as well as the disease. They are an invaluable asset to the patients, the hospital, and the community”, says Merrill Solan, MD, Medical Director of Jefferson Radiation Oncology at Riddle and Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at Thomas Jefferson University.
