Finding the Right Treatment
The genitourinary cancer team at Lankenau Medical Center is dedicated to
providing every patient with personalized care. Each plan is customized
so that patients receive the most-advanced, least-invasive treatments
with the fewest side effects. As often as possible, our team
strives to preserve healthy tissue while destroying the cancer at its
point of origin and any cancer that has spread.
Treatment options at Lankenau include:
-
Minimally invasive surgery with the da Vinci ®
System – a computer-enhanced surgical robot
that allows surgeons to perform surgery with greater
precision
-
Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)
– the most significant breakthrough in external beam
radiation therapy, this is a computer-based, 3-D
radiation planning and delivery system that precisely
targets cancerous tumors
-
TrueBeam Therapy for prostate cancer
that reduces treatment time from seven weeks to one
-
Low-dose-rate brachytherapy – the
delivery of a radioactive “seed” directly into the
prostate through special needles
-
Radiofrequency ablation of kidney tumors
When considering treatments, our team will find the one that works for
you. Age, overall health, size and location of the tumor, extent of the
disease, and your tolerance for specific treatments are all important
factors in determining an individualized and accurate treatment plan.
