Our endocrinologists diagnose and treat disorders of the endocrine
glands (including diabetes mellitus) and disorders affecting the
thyroid, parathyroid, pituitary and adrenal glands. They also treat and
diagnose disorders of the pancreas and reproductive organs. The scope of
their activities also includes disorders of bone and mineral metabolism
and lipoprotein metabolism, as well as endocrine hypertension and
endocrine aspects of other organ systems.
Diabetes Management Program
The Diabetes Management Program is designed to help you take charge of
your health by learning about diabetes and the importance of controlling
your blood sugar (glucose) level. Our goal is to keep you as healthy and
active as possible and minimize potential complications.
Our program is designed for individuals with type 1 or type 2 diabetes
and includes:
-
Individual consultations with a diabetes nurse specialist or
diabetes dietician specialist
-
A 10-hour course in diabetes management (both day and evening
classes are offered)
-
Support groups and other resources
A 10-year research study completed by the National Institutes of
Health proved that good blood-glucose control prevents or delays many of
the complications of diabetes.
Education
Our individual consults and group classes are conducted by nurses and
dieticians who are certified diabetes educators. Specific topics
include:
-
What is diabetes?
-
Measuring your own blood sugar

Meal planning
-
Using exercise to control your diabetes
-
Medication management
-
Stress management
