Paoli Hospital is committed to making sure that the most advanced and compassionate health care will always be here when our community needs it. As a not-for-profit organization, we rely directly on private support to fulfill this commitment. Philanthropy has been at the very heart of our hospital from the beginning. Without it, we would not have been able to evolve into the organization we are today — nor can we become the organization we must be for tomorrow.
Increasing Demand for Care
In the past five years alone, the number of admissions to Paoli Hospital has risen by 29%, visits to the Emergency Department have increased by 36%, the surgeries performed rose by 25%, and the number of births increased by a remarkable 98%. In addition, from 2006 through 2015, the population within the Hospital's service area is expected to increase by over 7.5% annually, one of the fastest growing rates in the state.
Challenges in the Health Care Sector
Like other health care organizations, Paoli Hospital faces serious declining reimbursements, shortages of critical caregivers (physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and technicians), and medical liability cost increases. Continuing advances in medical treatments and technology require the hospital to make ongoing investments in new equipment and training. Private support is essential if we are to continue delivering first-rate health care for tens of thousands of our neighbors.
A Commitment to Access
Paoli Hospital also provides health care for patients who lack health insurance or do not otherwise have the ability to pay for services. In cases of emergency medical needs, we provide care to all patients regardless of where they live or their ability to pay. For non-emergency care, it is our policy to provide free or discounted care for medically-necessary services to those who meet eligibility requirements and live in our service area.
