As senior vice president and chief information officer (CIO), Karen
Thomas is responsible for the planning, implementation and support for
Information Services (IS) of Main Line Health, which also includes
telecommunications and audiovisual support for the system.
Thomas came to Main Line Health in 1995 as the assistant CIO and has
been involved with a variety of major IS implementations and
organization-wide initiatives. She brings almost 25 years of information
technology experience to her job. Thomas started her information
technology career with Andersen Consulting, where she worked for many
years in both health care and other industries. Later, she moved to
Hahnemann University Hospital, where she held a variety of IS management
roles, including the director of Patient and Physician Systems
Thomas is a member of the Health Information Management System Society
and the College of Health Information Management Executives. She is
currently serving as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the
Healthshare Exchange of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Thomas received her undergraduate degree from Bucknell University and
her Master of Health Administration degree from Duke University.
Thomas and her husband reside in Phoenixville, PA.
