FREE Smoking Cessation Programs for Adults, Teens and Families

Cigarette smoking is the single greatest preventable cause of illness, disability and death in America today, even though its link with heart disease, hypertension, stroke and cancer are well publicized. According to the U.S. Surgeon General, smoking cessation represents the single most important step that smokers can take to enhance the quality and length of their lives and the lives of those around them.

Listed below are our FREE smoking cessation programs for anyone who wants to quit.

ADULT PROGRAMS

SmokeFREE
Are you an adult who wants to quit smoking? SmokeFREE is a self-management program, which addresses the physical and psychological addiction to smoking. SmokeFREE is a state-approved smoking cessation program that has been in existence since the 1980s. Our qualified instructors will continue to follow-up with you by telephone offering support and encouragement throughout the smoking cessation process.

SmokeFREE is a six-session course that meets during a one month timeframe. The course:

  • Focuses on developing and meeting small, achievable goals and on establishing new, positive health behaviors to replace smoking
  • Emphasizes self-awareness and self-management in order to teach you how to tap into your own resources to overcome the smoking habit
  • Provides important information on nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and alternative methods to quitting smoking
  • Deals directly with the stress you may encounter as you quit smoking and how to cope with it
  • Offers you the opportunity to rethink and restructure your life by finding new ways of responding to situations
  • Helps you to develop permanent coping skills that will assist you when faced with the urge to smoke
Upon completion of SmokeFREE, 9 out of 10 participants quit smoking. At the end of the first year, about one-thrid of participants are STILL smoke-free!

Tobacco Intervention Program (T.I.P.)
A program designed for those who are highly addicted and have multiple medical conditions. T.I.P. consists of individual counseling with an educator, smoking relapse prevention education and disease treatment through a combination medications and strategies based on individual needs. For some patients, medication such as anti-depressants may be prescribed by a physician.

TEEN PROGRAMS

Not On Tobacco (N.O.T.)
This 8-session program is designed to help teens quit smoking or reduce the number of cigarettes smoked daily. N.O.T. is designed to provide a total health approach to helping adolescents. The program provides trends with the knowledge of how smoking affects the mind and body. It helps teens identify the triggers for smoking, as well as focus on smoking patterns and how they can be changed. In addition, teens learn about coping strategies and healthy lifestyle behaviors, including exercise and nutrition.

Teens Against Tobacco Use (T.A.T.U.)
This community and school based program teaches middle school students to become advocates for tobacco-free youth. Teens attend a one-day workshop to learn how to talk to their peers and spread the word to classmates and younger students about the harmful effects of tobacco.

FAMILY SUPPORT PACKET

Caring Families
This educational information packet provides family members and loved ones of smokers with the knowledge and skills needed to support and encourage the smoker prior to and during the smoking cessation process. We use the EMBRACE theory (Empathize, Motivate, Believe, Reward, Ask, Communicate, Encourage) to teach family members to be active participants in their loved one's smoking cessation process.
