Clinical research is a key part of the Hematology/Medical Oncology Fellowship Program at Lankenau Hospital. The research experience occurs in collaboration
with the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research.
The Fellows research experience occurs in all three years. There is protected research time in the fellows second and third
year. There are 2 months of protected research time in the fellows second year and 9 months of protected research time in
the third year.
- During the first year, the fellow is encouraged to begin the process of selecting a mentor, and an area of interest. This
process should continue with a literature review and the formulation of a hypothesis, if appropriate.
- During the second year, further literature review should occur along with development of a protocol. This protocol should
be submitted to the IRB for approval if necessary.
- The third year should be devoted to performance of the research and data collection. The results are to be analyzed and presented
in an appropriate forum. Every effort should be pursued to have the report published.
