Internal Medicine Residency Program Director's Message
Graduate medical education has been central to the mission of Lankenau Hospital for over 100 years. At Lankenau, we strive to ignite the joy of learning and to create physicians who will be perpetual students of medicine. We stress the development of interpersonal skills and professionalism in our physicians in addition to helping them build a broad and practical knowledge base. The majority of our faculty has academic appointments at Jefferson Medical College and are dedicated to house staff education and mentoring. Our patient mix and state-of-the-art facilities, including the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research and the Annenberg Center for Medical Education, make us an attractive alternative to university training programs. Our Internal Medicine Program has all of the benefits of a university program (including fellowship opportunities, research opportunities, and state-of-the-art facilities) combined with a smaller program size and a more realistic workload. Our patients vary from internationally-referred cardiology patients to local residents of West Philadelphia and the suburbs. If you come to Lankenau, you will be guaranteed an exposure to a wide variety of patients and medical pathology. Our goal is to create lifelong learners of Internal Medicine and its subspecialities. We are an older institution with a long history of teaching that is constantly evolving to enhance the learning experience of our trainees. Explore our website and come visit our program. You'll be excited by what you find. We look forward to hearing from you. Cynthia D. Smith, MD, FACP
