Lankenau Hospital has an Internal Medicine Clinical Care Center onsite which administers to the care of patients from many nearby communities. As with other areas of our residency, the outpatient
setting provides a nice balance of rigorous academic teaching and valuable clinical exposure. Each categorical resident will
build their own panel of patients over a three-year period. Every effort is made to provide continuity of care for patients
from the inpatient to the outpatient setting.
Residents also get experience with sick visits, urgent care and telephone medicine. Over the course of three years, all categorical
residents will attend a minimum of 108 weekly continuity care sessions and develop proficiency in evaluating and treating
patients with a variety of medical disorders under the supervision of attending physicians. Particular emphasis is placed
on clinical question generation and evidenced based clinical decision making.
All categorical residents will do (in addition to their weekly scheduled continuity clinics) carefully structured ambulatory
block rotations that include subspecialty clinical experiences in dermatology, ENT, endocrinology, ob/gyn, ophthalmology and
outpatient orthopedics. Our osteopathic interns are also scheduled in family practice rotations.
