Cardiovascular Diseases Fellowship Program

Path: Main Line Health < For Healthcare Professionals < Medical Education < Lankenau Hospital Residency & Fellowship Programs <

The Cardiovascular Diseases Fellowship Program at Lankenau Hospital began more than 25 years ago. Fellowships are available in general cardiovascular disease, electrophysiology, and interventional cardiology. All three fellowships are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and offer systematic training to meet the necessary background requirements for certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Diseases. In addition, the program has sufficient flexibility to meet the individual interests of the fellows in developing expertise in one or more specific areas of cardiology.

Our program offers a comprehensive cardiovascular cisease training experience combining outstanding academic teaching in didactic, small group and bedside settings with direct patient care. The program offers electives and outpatient rotations in private practices. The three-year program emphasizes training to develop a fellow into a well-rounded clinical cardiology consultant. The specific curriculum varies from year to year.

The Fellowship Program is supervised by board-certified physician specialists from Lankenau Hospital's Cardiovascular Division who are also faculty members of the Jefferson Medical College. Fellows also have access to the 70+ cardiac specialists and resources of the nationally-recognized Main Line Health Heart Center.

Research is a core component of the program. Our physicians and fellows understand the importance of investigating the latest therapies in the battle against heart disease. Today's research is tomorrow's treatments. The Main Line Health Heart Center conducts and participates in numerous investigative clinical trials. And through our affiliation with the renowned Lankenau Institute for Medical Research, fellows have access to one of the nation's leading cardiovascular disease research facilities.

Lankenau Hospital is currently approved for these National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) positions:

  • 3 positions in Cardiovascular Disease for the fourth, fifth and sixth post-doctoral years
  • 2 positions each in Interventional Cardiology and Electrophysiology.
