Career Opportunities The Best of the City and Suburbs The four Main Line Health System hospitals and other facilities are located in Philadelphia’s western suburbs, just minutes from the heart of the city. The Main Line is a collection of some of the most beautiful suburbs in the country with tree-lined streets, stone colonial homes, parks, affordable housing, the best school systems in Pennsylvania, convenient shopping, a variety of restaurants, and an outstanding quality of life in a top-tier community. Center City Philadelphia is easily accessible by car, train, or public transportation. Museums are plentiful, including the Philadelphia Art Museum and the Franklin Institute plus 24 others within the city itself. Across from the Schuylkill River’s famed Boathouse Row is the nation’s oldest zoo, with wildlife you can enjoy close-up. If you love music, see and hear the Philadelphia Orchestra in its exciting new home, the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts; watch the Pennsylvania Ballet; or take a picnic to summer concerts at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts, in Fairmount Park. Philadelphia's Broad Street has become the Avenue of the Arts--Check it out--you won't believe your entertainment options. And at Penn’s Landing on the Delaware waterfront there’s a musical feast every weekend in the summer, with many attractions to see and taste. So you’re a sports fan? We have seven major league teams and we’re building two new stadiums to showcase their talents. Like to eat? Try our gourmet world-class restaurants serving great seafood, elegant French, Oriental, Italian and American cuisine, plus a wide assortment of ethnic specialties, and our candidate for the all-purpose meal: famous Philly cheesesteaks. Want to catch up on your American history? It started here. Most tours of Philadelphia’s many historic sites begin with Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, and include a treasure trove of discoveries that will make you proud of our land and liberties. Attractions outside the city include the Brandywine River Museum showcasing the artistry of three generations of the Wyeth family, and the Barnes Museum in Lower Merion, a repository of Impressionism. Seven parks in the area offer swimming, hiking, cycling, riding, and fishing, among other activities. New York City and Baltimore, Maryland, are both near enough for day trips, and the Pocono Mountains and New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland beaches all offer weekend get-aways. Nearby historical sites include Valley Forge National Historic Park, the battleground at Gettysburg, and other reminders of the area’s rich history. |
