About Lankenau Hospital $10 Million Gift from The Annenberg Foundation Benefits Medical Education at Lankenau Hospital The Annenberg Foundation has presented Lankenau Hospital with a unique opportunity to create a dynamic regional center for
medical education. The Walter and Leonore Annenberg Conference Center for Medical Education at Lankenau Hospital – scheduled
to open its doors in the summer of 2004 – will be a hub for the medical education of physicians in Main Line Health and throughout
the region. The building will be situated in a dynamic area between the Hospital and the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research, and will be organized on three levels devoted to specific functions. Top Floor The Conference Level (top floor ) will house the Reception Lobby and three large meeting rooms with video-conferencing capability
to facilitate distance learning. This level will also feature medical simulation laboratories for physicians-in-training to
develop new skills.Second Floor The Office Level (second floor) will serve as the Main Line Health System’s headquarters for Graduate and Continuing Medical
Education. The Departments of Medicine, Surgery, and Obstetrics/Gynecology, which supervise Lankenau’s residency programs,
will also be housed on this level for the coordination and management of educational programming. Lankenau’s Auditorium – connected to the Office Level of the Conference Center by a corridor – will be renovated to create
a fully equipped conference arena. The presentation of new medical information and surgical techniques will be greatly enhanced
in this space by the addition of high-technology projection, sound and recording systems. The Auditorium will become the core
meeting and teaching facility for the Annenberg Conference Center.Ground Floor
Conference Rooms The William G. Figueroa, MD Medical Conference Room will be situated on the second level of the Annenberg Conference Center
where Medical Education offices will be located. This conference room will serve physicians, residents, fellows and students
for department meetings and daily physician conferences. The conference room is dedicated in honor and memory of Dr. William
G. Figueroa, an esteemed and highly respected Lankenau physician. The Dr. and Mrs. John K. Knorr III Executive Conference Room will be situated on the top level of the Annenberg Conference
Center. This Executive Conference Room will serve physicians, trustees and administrators for medical staff meetings, Board
conferences, and other similar meetings. This conference room was dedicated through a generous contribution to Lankenau Hospital
from Dr. and Mrs. John Knorr . Dr. Knorr, a distinguished physician in the fields of obstetrics and gynecology, served for
32 years at Lankenau from 1951 to 1983.Thoughtful Gifts Transform the Community Mrs. Leonore Annenberg and her late husband, Ambassador Walter H. Annenberg, devoted their lives to the transformation of communities through thoughtful giving. With their very generous support, we will create the first facility dedicated exclusively to medical education at Lankenau. The Annenberg Foundation’s contribution to Lankenau has also launched an endowment to help perpetuate the mission of medical education at our Hospital – to the ultimate benefit of our physicians and patients. This is truly a turning point in Lankenau’s highly respected history of providing medical care to our community. It abundantly demonstrates what an enormous difference charitable giving can make in the quality of our lives today and far into the future.
