The Internal Medicine Residency Program at Lankenau provides a
comprehensive balance of rigorous academic teaching, extensive clinical
experience and patient contact. Lankenau Medical Center is a mixture of
community hospital and tertiary care center with over 331 inpatient
beds. Located in the Philadelphia suburbs, just west of the city border,
Lankenau Medical Center is perfectly situated to meet the healthcare
needs of a diverse and exciting patient population. Because our
Intensive Care Unit has been ranked one of the top 100 ICU's in the
country and our cardiology division is one of the top 50 in the nation,
Lankenau also serves as a tertiary referral center for the city of
Philadelphia, as well as its suburbs in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and
The Department of Medicine includes a Cardiac Catheterization Unit,
Cardiac Electrophysiology Unit, a Pulmonary Function Laboratory,
Endoscopy Suites, Cardiopulmonary Laboratory, Cancer Center, Renal
Dialysis Units, Sleep Medicine Services, and special studies and
research laboratories in Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Diseases,
Hematology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Neurology, Infectious
Diseases, and Rheumatology.
Resident-RunWork Rounds (daily)
Upper level residents take their medical teams to the bedside of the
patients on their service and review physical findings and discuss the
treatment plan with the interns and students.
Bedside Teaching Rounds (daily)
These rounds are taught by the a core faculty member on each service.
The faculty members are hospitalists, generalists and specialists. Teams
consist of an attending, a resident, an intern, and third and fourth
year medical students. Rounds are a mixture of didactic and bedside
teaching. Daily multidisciplinary rounds are held with nursing, care
management, social work and other members of the patient care team.
Intensive Care Unit Rounds (daily)
Daily ICU rounds are conducted with the medical team, the attending
physician, and a cardiology and pulmonary care fellow.
Resident Morning Report (four times a week)
This case-based conference is run by faculty members from the Department
Intern Morning Report (once a week)
This case based conference is run by a senior resident and facilitated
by a Chief Resident And Program Director.
