Bryn Mawr Hospital announces a significant first in its long history, the establishment of its first endowed position. What’s more, this marks another notable milestone for Main Line Health — the first endowment to be designated for a nursing position — demonstrating our belief in the importance of the nursing profession in modern healthcare.

The Claire Baldwin Endowed Vice President of Patient Care Services, named in honor of of Bryn Mawr Hospital’s former colleague and nursing excellence advocate Claire Baldwin, will be bestowed on a worthy recipient – Dr. Fiona Felton. Designation as the first holder of this endowed position honors Fiona’s work in maintaining high quality nursing and patient care during some very challenging times, and arms her with resources to support additional nursing, patient care, teaching and research initiatives in the future.

Claire BaldwinThe endowed position was graciously funded by the late Elia Durr Buck, a long-time champion of Bryn Mawr Hospital nurses, in honor of Claire Baldwin MSN, RN, NEA-BC, who worked for Bryn Mawr Hospital from 1984 to 2012. For twenty-eight years, Claire helped the hospital reach new levels of patient care, first as an instructor in our School of Nursing specializing in operating room education; then as Associate Vice President of Surgical Care; and finally, as Vice President of Administration/Nursing, which later evolved into the Vice President for Patient Care Services position. Throughout her career, Claire emphasized professional nursing practices and always sought to advance progressive change, be it taking the lead on our orthopedic expansion or initiating neurointerventional and bariatric services at the hospital. Those who worked closely with Claire cite her ability to connect with people, to actively listen, and to exude respect to all patients, staff and visitors. When it came time to name this endowment, Claire was the ideal choice.
