ART ABILITY: 
A Juried Exhibition of Art and Fine Crafts by Artists with Disabilities
November 8, 2008 - January 18, 2009

Eligibility and Terms
Open to artists with physical, cognitive related to brain injury or stroke, visual, and hearing disabilities. Only work executed after the onset of disability or injury is eligible. All works must be for sale and not previously exhibited in Art Ability. Reproduction prints will not be accepted. All media are eligible including:

  • Works on paper
  • Paintings
  • Sculpture
  • Jewelry
  • Photography
  • Pottery
  • Fiber arts
  • Other fine crafts
Work must not exceed maximum UPS shipping size of 130 inches, measured as follows: measure length around all four sides plus one additional long side. Sculpture weighing more that 50 lbs. will not be accepted.


Over $6,000 in Prizes Awarded
All work will be eligible for prizes of $500, $250, $200, $150 and $50, selected by a notable panel of jurors. New since 2006 with the establishment of the Charles W. Hennessy Artist Award Endowment is a $1,000 "Best in Show" award.


Sales & Liability
Works will be insured in the amount of the stated value. Coverage will begin from the date of receipt to the date of return. Bryn Mawr Rehab will retain a 20% commission on all sales of exhibiting work, multiples, and those commissioned in the show. Artists must contact BMRH in the event of additional sales or commissions as a result of their participation in the exhibition. Sales of artwork from the artist's studio will not undercut the retail price posted during the exhibition. Permission is also hereby granted to allow Bryn Mawr Rehab to photograph, publicize and otherwise appropriately use the works submitted for the exhibition for various types of publicity, educational and public relations purposes.


Instructions for Submitting Entries

Send JPG images on CD only.

The first round of reviews is by CDs. Artists are then notified by mail with preliminary review results and addition instructions for submitting work. CDs of up to 6 works may be submitted for preliminary review. Sculptors may submit two views of each work. Images must be sent with completed entry forms (see link below).

Note: Acceptance of a work based on electronic images does not guarantee inclusion. The jurors reserve the right to final selection when viewing actual work. Selling prices cannot be raised after works are accepted in the slide review process.


Labeling CDs
Each CD containing the image(s) used to judge the work must include the following information:

  • Artist's name
  • Title of work
  • Date of completion
  • Medium
  • Size (height, width, depth)


Submitting CDs
CDs must be received by June 27, 2008.
