With more than 28,000 outpatient visits each year, Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital is one of the largest rehabilitation providers in the entire Philadelphia region. We believe our
scheduling flexibility, experienced staff, supplementary services (such as support groups) and individualized approach offer
the greatest opportunity in the Delaware Valley for maximum recovery, no matter how minor or severe your injury or illness
may be.
The broad range of orthopedic and neurological disorders we treat includes: brain injuries, stroke, spinal cord injuries,
amputations, multiple sclerosis, Guillain-Barré Syndrome and Parkinson’s disease. Many patients are treated for these disorders
in our 151-bed hospital, then continue their recovery as outpatients in our intensive Day Treatment Program...or in one of
our Outpatient Therapy Programs, which include RehabWorks for work-related injuries and a comprehensive Pain Management Program.
However, you need not be an inpatient first to have access to these programs. Most of our outpatients come to us seeking relief
from nagging sports injuries, back pain, arthritis and balance problems, among other complaints.
The Bryn Mawr Rehab Outpatient Network, which has expanded beyond our flagship hospital to include six other locations in
Philadelphia’s western suburbs, offers these patients convenient access to the same innovative treatment programs and high-quality
physical, occupational and speech therapy services found at Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital.

Day Treatment Programs Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital’s Day Treatment Programs are designed to help individuals regain independence and to return to school,
home, community or the workplace. Participation can be full or half day. Therapy focuses on daily living skills, including
mobility, personal care, problem-solving, work/school skills, budgeting, social interactions and healthy lifestyles. Vocational
rehabilitation is an important program component, and appropriate referrals are made for needed vocational services. A unique
strength of Day Treatment is our focus on patient and family involvement in setting goals and planning treatment.
We offer treatment options for adults and adolescents with a wide range of physical and cognitive disabilities. Three program
options are:

Bryn Mawr RehabWorks RehabWorks, the hospital’s program for people with work related injuries and chronic pain, brings together an interdisciplinary team
to support individuals whose functional capacity has diminished due to an illness or injury. Goal-oriented treatment addresses
medical, physical and emotional needs. Pain management is just one component of RehabWorks. Other services include:
-
Injury prevention, including job-site analysis, screening after a job offer to assess level of physical demand, lift tests,
and employee education on body mechanics and ergonomic principles.
-
Rehabilitation for work-related injury, including physical and occupational therapy, stretching, strengthening, aerobic conditioning,
and education to expedite return to work.
-
Work hardening, which is designed to incorporate regular workday tasks into therapy. Therapies include stretching, strengthening
and aerobic conditioning along with real and simulated work tasks, and education.
-
Independent medical and/or functional capacity evaluations by our physicians and therapists can help determine an individual’s
physical capacities and limitations. Recommendations are made for feasibility of returning to specific jobs or for maximum
medical improvement (MMI) status.

- An intensive 8- to 12-week program that is outcome-focused and cost-effective.
- Psychological services that include biofeedback, group therapy, individual therapy and education.
- State-of-the-art therapy environment with the latest equipment for physical conditioning and work simulation, both indoors
and outdoors.

Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Often referred to as an “unseen injury,” mild traumatic brain injury (also known as post concussion syndrome) can change the
personality, disrupt the senses and interfere with cognitive abilities, even when initial symptoms like dizziness, headache
and nausea disappear quickly. Ongoing symptoms may include memory and learning problems, unexplained mood swings, impaired
planning or organizational skills, and depression. Treatment draws upon neuropsychology, physical therapy, occupational therapy,
speech/language pathology and psychological counseling.
