Advocacy for People with Disabilities and a Commitment to Injury Prevention
The dedication and passion we bring to treating people with functional limitations is matched by our commitment to preventing
disabilities. To that end, we have developed a number of aggressive community outreach, preventive education, wellness and
scholarship programs. We also work within the local community and beyond to assist individuals in need who are physically
and cognitively challenged.
 |
Advocacy Through membership and active participation, we support the efforts of the Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania (BIAPA),
the Pennsylvania Association of Rehabilitation Facilities (PARF), the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities
(CARF), the Delaware Valley Stroke Council (DVSC), the Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP), the ALS
Association, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the American Medical Rehabilitation Providers Association and other groups that
raise awareness about disabling injuries and illnesses. We advocate for these issues on the local, state and national levels,
and we create community events to promote understanding. Contact other support organizations.

 |
Patient Therapy and Scholarship To assist patients who can no longer afford to continue their care with us, we award grants to qualified applicants to help
with therapy, follow-up care, and prosthetic and assistive devices ranging from splints to powered wheelchairs. This fund
is supported through the generosity of the community, Delaware Valley businesses, foundations, and the entire hospital family.

Cruisin' Not Boozin' Since 1989, graduates of our brain injury program have shared vivid accounts of their drinking or drug-related car accidents
and prolonged recoveries with students and young adults. Two out of every three students surveyed about the Cruisin' not Boozin' presentations at their schools indicated their attitudes toward drinking and driving changed. More than 90 percent said
the program convinced them not to drive after drinking. This prize-winning program has reached more than 500,000 students
in five states and is especially popular during spring prom season. Learn More! |

Art Ability Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital's annual international juried Art Ability exhibit, which began in 1995, provides a marketplace and
showplace for the talents and tenacity of artists with disabilities from throughout the United States, Canada and other foreign
countries. In addition to prize money, participating artists receive 80 percent of the purchase price for their artwork,
with 20 percent going to the hospital to support patient services. Art Ability has won numerous awards for helping to increase
public awareness about the abilities and exceptional accomplishments of people with physical and cognitive disabilities.
