The Bryn Mawr Hospital/duPont Children's Health Program provides a full spectrum of care in appropriate settings, including:

Our dedicated medical and surgical staff includes general pediatricians as well as more than 30 pediatric specialists in such areas as neonatology, cardiology, gastroenterology, surgery and otolaryngology. From newborns to teens, our talented healthcare team possesses the knowledge and hands-on training to care for the most common to the most complicated medical conditions.

One child arrives by ambulance while experiencing difficulty breathing. Another comes for treatment for a sore throat and high fever. Yet another youngster needs emergency surgery to remove her appendix. All three find superb care at the Bryn Mawr Hospital/duPont Children's Health Program. Whether it is a problem that requires emergency care, more routine medical inpatient care or outpatient treatment, our Children's Health Program provides a comprehensive range of services designed especially for children and their families.

When Your Child Needs to Be Hospitalized

For most families, the hospitalization of a child can be an unsettling experience. We work to alleviate your anxiety and make your child's hospital stay as comfortable as possible.

In addition to advanced technology, you'll find a caring and highly skilled physician and nursing staff

  • Staff hospitalists, board-certified pediatricians who specialize in caring for children in the hospital
  • A pediatrician on duty 24 hours a day
  • Registered nurses and patient care technicians who share your concerns as a parent

As pediatric specialists, our doctors and nurses can assess the physical, psychological and emotional issues unique to children. We take the time to listen, offer guidance and support and keep you informed about your child's health.

Specialized Intensive Care for Infants

At times, families find themselves facing sudden, unexpected medical circumstances that require specialized care and extended hospitalization of their newborns. In the event that your newborn should require more intensive medical care or surveillance, our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit provides the highest level of expert care your baby needs to get well as quickly as possible.

When Your Child Needs Surgery

Children who require surgery are in the experienced hands of surgeons from duPont and the Main Line Hospitals. Supported by pediatric anethesiologists and nurses, our surgical experts provide a range of procedures spanning from the most routine to the most complex. Pre- and post-operative care is provided on our child-friendly inpatient pediatric unit. In addition, same-day surgery is available in our surgi-center.

Sedation Services Especially for Kids

For children who need to be sedated for outpatient services such as MRI and endoscopy, we provide expert health assessment prior to sedation and administration of conscious sedation.

After the MRI procedure, a nurse accompanies the child back to the inpatient pediatric unit for recovery.
