duPont Children's Health Program General Information Since its founding in 1940, the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, a division of Nemours, has served thousands of children from across the country and around the world. The 180-bed duPont Hospital offers all the
specialties of pediatric medicine, surgery, and dentistry. Set on a beautiful 300-acre campus near Wilmington, Delaware, the
suburban setting provides a tranquil place for children to heal.
It was the vision of Mr. duPont to help alleviate suffering. Today, that vision is fulfilled in Nemours, one of the nation's leading children's health systems. Nemours has more than 4,000 employees in four states, with a singular focus on providing excellence in children's health care. We achieve this through world-class medical care, biomedical research, education and prevention services that address the health and well-being of the whole child. We are dedicated to improving the lives of children -- now and for generations to come. That is the promise of Nemours. Bryn Mawr Hospital/duPont Children's Health Program combines the expertise of pediatric specialists from the duPont Hospital for Children with the resources of Main Line Health System -- Bryn Mawr Hospital, Lankenau Hospital and Paoli Memorial Hospital -- to meet the health care needs of children in the Main Line communities. Community pediatricians, hospital-based specialists, nurse practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists and other professionals work together to bring comprehensive and coordinated pediatric care to the community. Through the Nemours-Main Line Health partnership, children and their families have access to neonatal intensive care, inpatient pediatric care, pediatric primary care and a variety of subspecialty services. When babies require specialized care, Nemours neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners are available day and night at Bryn Mawr, Lankenau and Paoli hospitals. Bryn Mawr Hospital's Inpatient Pediatric Unit is staffed around-the-clock with Nemours Hospitalists. Hospitalists work within the hospital, caring for patients from the time they are admitted to the time they are discharged -- working in collaboration with community pediatricians. Nemours cardiologists, general surgeons, endocrinologists among others, assist in the diagnosis and treatment of children in the neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) or Pediatric Unit. Whenever possible, specialty care is provided in the local facilities. If the services of a children's hospital are required, transport to the duPont Hospital for Children is arranged. Outpatient specialty care is also available on Bryn Mawr Hospital's campus. A variety of Nemours specialists evaluate new patients or provide follow up care.
