The Comprehensive Breast Center at Bryn Mawr Hospital would like to introduce you to our panel of experts. Members of the panel were selected based on their expertise in breast health and are board certified in either Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology or Radiology. They are dedicated to working together as a team to integrate all these perspectives in explaining patient options. The Breast Care Coordinator serves as a liaison to arrange consultations with these breast specialists.


Breast Imaging:

  • Heidi Kolberg, MD, is an active member of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging and has a special interest in breast cancer. She brings over 15 years of radiology experience to the Center. Dr. Kolberg plays an important role in your overall health care with her primary focus on breast imaging. She supplies your doctor with the information needed to provide the appropriate treatment based on the results of your breast imaging exam.
  • Emma L. Simpson, MD, is chief of Radiology at Bryn Mawr Hospital. She is a member of the Radiological Society of North America, the American College of Radiology and board member of the Radiology Associates of the Main Line. Dr. Simpson has lectured on the impact of new technology on diagnosis and treatment options. She has a special interest in women's health.
  • John Stassi, MD, oversees all radiology services for the Center including mammography, breast MRI and ultrasound-guided and stereotactic breast biopsies. As a breast imaging specialist, Dr. Stassi's particular expertise is performing minimally-invasive breast biopsies as an alternative to conventional surgical biopsy. Dr. Stassi incorporates advanced diagnostic tools, including computer-aided detection, to accurately detect breast cancer at its earliest, most treatable stage and to help guide treatment planning.

Medical Oncology:

  • Steven C. Cohen, MD, is chief of the division of Hematology/Medical Oncology for Main Line Health and president of the Bryn Mawr Hospital Medical Staff. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and Easter Cooperative Oncology Group. He is the head of Cancer Committee and Director of the Tumor Board at Bryn Mawr Hospital. Dr. Cohen is a key member of the Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP). He has over 20 years of experience in the medical treatment of breast cancer.
  • Tracy S. d'Entremont, MD, is an active member of the Division of Hematology/Oncology. She has contributed to medical literature in the areas of breast and other cancers. She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American College of Physicians. She is a frequent lecturer on the subject of breast cancer.
  • Sandra F. Schnall, MD, is an active member of the Division of Hematology/Oncology. She is a member of the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Oncology. Dr. Schnall has co-authored articles on breast cancer and cancer therapies. She has a particular interest in breast cancer.
  • John D. Sprandio, MD, is an active member of the Division of Hematology/Oncology. He is a member of the American Federation of Clinical Research Associates and the American College of Physicians. Dr. Sprandio has lectured on medical oncology and breast cancer and been the primary investigator to two research trials involving metastatic breast cancer.

Plastic Surgery:

  • Ronald A. Lohner, MD, FACS, is an active member of the Division of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Lohner is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and holds membership in multiple regional and national surgical societies including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. His special interest is breast reconstruction.
  • R. Barrett Noone, MD, is chief of the division of Plastic Surgery for Main Line Health. He has regularly been listed in Philadelphia Magazine's "Top Doctors" issue and is listed in Best Doctors in America. He was a pioneer in the concept and techniques of breast reconstruction at the time of mastectomy. He is also the Executive Director of the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
  • Roslyn C. Souser, MD, FACS, FACA, is an active member of the Division of Plastic Surgery. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons as well as a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. She is a frequent lecturer on the reconstruction of the breast following mastectomy.
  • Chris D. Tzarnas, MD, FACS, is an active member of the Division of Plastic Surgery. He has been an invited lecturer on post-mastectomy reconstruction and his research is published regularly in the Plastic & Reconstruction Surgery Journal. Dr. Tzarnas is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and is an editor of the journal, Current Surgery.
  • Daniel B. Westawski, MD, is an active member of the Division of Plastic Surgery. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. He has a special interest in breast reconstruction.

Radiation Oncology:

  • Erik D. Assarsson, MD, is an active member of the Division of Radiation Oncology. He has particular interest in employing the latest advances in radiation therapy in treating breast cancer, including IMRT and high dose rate brachytherapy for breast cancer control.
  • Richard J. Carella, MD, Main Line Health Chief of Radiation Oncology, brings a distinguished background in the use of advanced technology to treat cancer. Dr. Carella was the first Main Line Health radiation oncologist to use IMRT for breast cancer which targets tumors more precisely, and also performs partial breast irradiation as an alternative treatment.

Surgery:

  • Thomas G. Frazier, MD, FACS, directs all clinical activities for the Center and provides leadership for programming initiatives. Dr. Frazier has a distinguished career in surgical oncology, performing groundbreaking work in the battle against breast cancer. His accomplishments include the first immediate breast reconstruction in the Philadelphia region. Dr. Frazier has also helped to pioneer several innovative biopsy techniques including sentinel node mapping and ductal lavage and ductoscopy for early detection. He also serves as program director for the Breast Surgery Fellowship Program.
  • Catherine Z. Hayward, MD, FACS, is a member of the Philadelphia Academy of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She has a particular interest in women's health and breast surgery and is available for consultations with patients regarding their surgical options.
  • David Rose, MD, FACS, provides the Center's patients with over 20 years' experience in the surgical management of breast cancer. He is Chief of the Section of General Surgery at Bryn Mawr Hospital, is a member of the Philadelphia Academy of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has been named one of the "Top Doctors" in Philadelphia according to Philadelphia according to Philadelphia Magazine.
