The Health Education Center at Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood, PA offers over a dozen grade- and age-focused programs for kids and teens, many of which feature demonstrations
by Pandora, the transparent talking mannequin and other of the Center's multimedia resources.

Somebody Special: (Grades 1 & 2) 60 minutes
Description: 3 dimensional models are used to introduce children to the 5 senses. Emphasis is put on the importance and care of the senses.Goal: Students gain an appreciation of the human body, especially the 5 senses.
Behavioral Objectives:

Identify the 5 senses and organs associated with them.

Name the major organ controlling the body & the senses

Discuss how to protect the individual senses

Use individual senses of hearing, smelling and touching.

Food Adventure: (Grades K, 1 & 2) 75 minutes
Description: Interactive program teaches the children about the different types of food and what each type of food does for the body.
Goal: Students gain knowledge of food and nutrients and how the body uses them on a daily basis.
Behavioral Objectives:
- Name the 5 food groups and foods associated with them
- Discuss the importance of dental care and how some foods decay the teeth
- Identify how different foods and how they help the body.
- Recognize the importance of food in keeping the body healthy
PA Standards: Health, Safety & PE: - 10.1.3C
All About Me: (Grade K) 75 minutes
Description: Interactive program teachers the children about their special body by using different learning centers to help discuss important
parts of their body.
Goal: Students will gain an insight on the importance of their bodies and keeping them healthy starting at a young age.
Behavioral Objectives:
- Learn about their uniqueness by looking at differences between them and classmates
- Discuss foods that are important for healthy living and those that don’t help the body
- Identify how the heart and blood work in the body
- Discover how the lungs and the air we breathe work together in the body.
Health Adventure: (Grades 2 & 3) 90 minutes
Description: Hands on, interactive program focusing on the skeletal and digestive systems and a brief introduction into the circulatory
system.
Goal: Students will become aware of the role of the skeletal system and the digestive system in their bodies and how the body is
a wonderful machine.
Behavioral Objectives:
- Discover how many bones are in the human body
- Identify the 4 jobs of the skeletal system
- Recognize the importance of the skeletal system
- Name the essential organs of the digestive system and the role they play
- Learn the importance of the heart

Incredible Machine: (Grades 4-9) 90 minutes
Description: Through the use of large models students will learn about cells, the circulatory and nervous systems and the organs in each
system.
Goal: Students will gain an appreciation of the human body and how it functions as an incredible machine.
Behavioral Objectives:
- Identify the parts of a typical cell
- Recognize the different cells in the body
- Name the body system containing the brain and spinal cord
- Describe the importance of the red blood cell and its function
- Show how physical activity effects heart rate
PA Standards: Health and PE -10.1.3B, 10.4.3C, 10.1.6B, Science and Technology – 3.1.7A, 3.3.4A, 3.3.4B, 3.3.7B, 3.3.10B<<p/>
Eating Machine: (Grades 4 & up) 90 minutes
Description: Using an interactive computer program, students will learn specific nutritional needs and how these needs can best be met.
Students learn the importance of sound dietary habits and exercise.
Goal: Students will learn the job of the various nutrients contained in the food they eat: proteins, carbohydrates, fat, water,
minerals and vitamins and the importance of healthy eating.
Behavioral Objectives:
- Review the food label and become aware of the information it provides
- Define the nutrients in food and how they help the body
- Choose food to make a healthy breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner
- Analyze meals for fat, protein, carbohydrate and vitamin content
- Witness how calories are burned while doing exercise
- Define the words: variety, balance and moderation

Drugs: Choice or Chance: (Grades 4-8) 90 minutes
Description: Through the use of displays and interaction students will learn how all drugs, including alcohol, nicotine, medicine, illegal
drugs, enter the body and negatively affect the body systems.
Goal: With a better understanding of how all drugs, including over the counter medicine affect the body, the student will be able
to make better more informed decisions regarding drug use.
Behavioral Objectives:
- Define what a drug is
- Recognize the different ways drugs enter the body
- Discuss how the drugs will affect each body system it travels through
- Name the two systems that all drugs will enter in the body and its effect on those systems
- Explain the difference between legal and illegal drugs
- Recognize and name healthy alternatives to drug use
- Identify three harmful effects of illegal drug use

Life Begins: (Grades 5-9) 90 minutes
Description: Using slides and models students will follow human growth and development from conception to birth.
Goal: Students will gain an appreciation of the changes the body goes through in becoming an adult and the responsibility involved
in beginning a new life.
Behavioral Objectives:
- Identify the major function of the male and female reproductive system
- Specify the major organs in the male and female reproductive system and their role in reproduction
- Identify the role of the pituitary gland in puberty
- Discuss the purpose of the menstrual cycle
- Define the terms fertilization, implantation, embryo and fetus
- Name physical signs indicating the onset of puberty

Choose To Be Healthy: (Ages Pre-school – 7 years) 90 minutes (with break)
Description: Using hands-on activities students will learn how to wash their hands, know what food will help the body and learn how to
stay healthy.
Goal: Students will learn about the importance of staying clean, eating healthy and resting in order to stay healthy.
Behavioral Objectives:
- Identify 3 ways to stay healthy
- Identify the food groups and what they offer the body
- Discuss germs and how to prevent illness
- Learn good dental hygiene
- Describe the importance of exercise
PA Standards: Health, Safety and PE – 10.4.3A
Choose to be Safe: (Ages 8-12) 90 minutes (with break)
Description: Hands on activities help teach the students about staying safe, models will help them understand the body, and some basic
first aid including the Heimlich maneuver is included.
Goal: Students will learn the importance of staying safe at home and outside the house along with learning some simple safety techniques
and recognizing possible problems and dealing with them.
Behavioral Objectives:
- Learn how to activate the emergency medical system (911) and when to call.
- Recognize an emergency
- Learn the Heimlich maneuver
- Identify the parts of the body including the organs being kept “safe”
PA Standards: Health, Safety and PE – 10.3.3A, 10.3.3B, 10.3.3D
Choose to be Fit: (Ages 10-13) 75 minutes
Description: Discussion will center on food and nutrients and how they help the body and include the importance of exercise in staying
fit. Students will participate in simple exercises to help them stay fit.
Goal: To help the students understand the importance between nutrition and exercise and staying healthy.
Behavioral:
- Identify the essential nutrients for a healthy body
- Discuss how nutrients help the body
- Define the relationship between exercise and nutrition
- Discuss various way of staying fit

Harassment Hurts: (Ages 9-11) 75 minutes
Description: Using activities and discussion students will begin to recognize and learn how to handle harassing behaviors directed towards
them.
Goal: To help students understand what harassment is how it occurs and how to handle situations when they occur.
Behavioral Objectives:
- Learn to recognize different ways in which harassment can occur
- Identify signs of someone being harassed or being the aggressor
- Discuss ways to handle situations dealing with being harassed
- Understand why a bully targets certain people
- Learn how to stop victimizing others
PA Standards: Health, Safety and PE – 10.3.6C
Be a Buddy Not a Bully: (Ages 5-9) 60 minutes
Description: Activities and discussion will help the students recognize the signs of a bully and how to handle the situation before it
gets out of control.
Goal: To help students recognize what is bullying and how to handle it without violence.
Behavioral Objectives:
- Discuss ways to handle bullying situations
- Identify signs of bullying
- Define what bullying is
- Identify people who can help someone who is being bullied
PA Standards: Health, Safety & PE – 10.3.3C
Aggression, Intimidation and Bullying: (Ages 11-13) 60 minutes
Description: To help prepare students to recognize aggression and intimidation and ways to handle the behavior.
Goal: To help students identify the traits associated with aggressive behavior and intimidation and dealing with those behaviors.
Behavioral Objectives:
- Learn to recognize aggression, intimidation and bullying
- Identify common characteristics of each form of bullying
- Identify traits of possible victims
- Learn ways to assist others in dealing with aggressive behavior or fellow peers.
- Identify ways to change such behavior.
