Lankenau Hospital's Physical Medicine Department offers inpatient and outpatient care in a modern, fully-equipped facility. Complete services include physical, occupational therapy and speech and language pathology. Electrodiagnostic testing procedures are provided by a physician specialist as well as physiatric evaluations, treatment of musculoskeletal, neurological, medical, orthopaedic and sports related injuries, wound care and rehabilitation physician consultation services. Physical Medicine specialists work in concert with therapists to offer services both on the nursing units and in the department. Specialty programs, including inpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation, inpatient cardiac rehabilitation and Hand Therapy, are also offered. The Physical Medicine Department at Lankenau houses Electrodiagnostic Laboratories (EMG/Nerve Conduction Studies), where electrical studies are provided to diagnose nerve and muscle disorders.

In Speech Pathology, Speech/Language pathologists provide evaluation and treatment for communication and swallowing disorders, including videofluoroscopic swallowing studies, and x-ray imaging of the swallowing process. Emphasis is placed on patient and family education to ensure the continuum of care.
