The Physicians in the Nephrology Division at Lankenau Hospital offer advanced techniques in the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension and medical kidney problems including chronic and acute renal disorders, nephrolithiasis (kidney stones), diabetic nephropathy, renal failure, difficult-to-control hypertension, and certain complications of pregnancy. Persons with advanced kidney failure are treated in dialysis units available to inpatients and outpatients at Lankenau Hospital. The division also manages a home peritoneal dialysis program, and the medical portion of the Lankenau Hospital Renal Transplant Program for kidney transplants. The program, with the Lankenau Medical Research Center, is one of only 15 centers in the National Institutes of Health’s seven year HEMO study, the largest-ever study of hemodialysis. The “Hemodialysis Efficiency and Membrane Outcome” study is designed to find the ideal balance of therapy, cost and results for dialysis patients. (See also Renal Transplant Program under Hospital-Based Services and Programs.)
