I bring university residency and fellowship training and expertise to every patient I see. I believe each patient deserves the best possible and most compassionate care I can provide, in a comfortable and low stress environment.
I am a native New Yorker. I graduated Scarsdale High School as valedictorian in 1976. I attended Harvard College, graduating cum laude in biochemistry after three years, and came to the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, graduating at age 24 in 1983. I remained at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for general surgical residency and research fellowship, finishing in 1990. I returned to New York for a pancreaticobiliary and surgical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and then came back to the Philadelphia area, specifically Paoli Hospital, in 1991, where I have remained. I practice the full range of general surgery, including breast, hernia, colorectal, gallbladder and thyroid surgery. I take emergency room call and handle all acute care general surgical emergencies including appendicitis, diverticulitis, intestinal obstruction, acute cholecystitis, incarcerated hernia, splenic bleeding, etc. I perform laparoscopic procedures, both by hand and robotically. I am married (31 years and counting) to Elana Kripke, MD, an internal medicine physician whose office is on the Paoli Hospital campus. We have four children, ranging in age from 9 to 25 (the youngest is adopted from Vietnam). My hobbies include long distance running and jazz and rock drumming. I enjoy political, nonfiction science, as well as science fiction reading. I am currently the President of Surgical Specialists, P.C., the premier surgical practice on the Main Line, comprising general, plastic, and vascular surgeons.
